I've been looking for a new job for a while and have had a couple suspicious emails after I've responded to Craig's List posts. I even have a 'generic' resume that does NOT list my home address or home/cell phone #s. I just list my email and say I'll be in touch promptly if they respond.

Another thing you need to do is go back to Craig's List and make sure you 'flag' any strange posts. And NEVER send these posts any personal info until you've actually SPOKEN with them...and YOU make the phone call....a lot of these posts could be tied to identity thiefs!!!

On anything that doesn't list a real person, email or phone #, I send a note asking where they are and ask for some contact info.

I spotted a post on C.L. but something sounded a bit 'fishy'...I sent an email asking WHERE they were, since it said "all city area", which didn't make sense (I've never heard it described that way before---and I'm 56).

Got a response asking me for more info, sent another email again asking WHERE they were and got the following email yesterday:

Hi,

I'm Jane Bradica, head of the HR department. We are sorry to say that the position has already been filled. After choosing someone we found your resume in our spam box (not sure why it landed there).

We strongly feel you should have received the position, however we have the same opening available in our 2nd floor office. The duties and hours are the same, just under different management. I can put you on the top of the list since I will be reviewing the resumes there as well.
