On January 31, 2011 I just happened to be looking at my bank account online. I saw a transaction that debited my account for $24.95. The company name was twx*Sports Illustrated.
I finally found a number to contact them but not on their web sites rather on the Complaints and Reviews site. I called and eventually was able to speak with a gentleman about my situation. He had heard the story before. I gave him all of the information that appeared on my bank statement which was of no help at all becasue it was truncated and dropped the last 3 digits of the only code he needed in order to help me. After about 15 minutes on the phone with him and after giving him the full and complete spelling of my name, zip code, home address (all of which they already had), he still could not find my "account" information. He told me the only way he could help me is if I gave him my debit card number. By this time I was quite furious and completely aware that I had been scammed. I did not give him that information. This all came about becasue just before Christmas I ordered 2 Green bay Packers jackets from NFLshop.com and as I was completeing the transaction online and exiting the site, a spam popped up offereing me a Green Bay T-shirt and 13 free issues of Sports Illustarted magazine. I could have cared less about the magazine but I wanted that Green Bay t-shirt for $1
So, like a big ol' fish, I bit. I got all my orders, Christmas came and went. Shame on me for thinking this was just a generous offer with no underlying commitment.
Today I am contacting my bank to file a complaint and request that they take steps to get my money back.
This is nothing more than theft. This is taking someone else's property without their permission. This is called stealing. If I take money from someone and give them my name and address, they could call the cops and have me arrested. I dont have the same option in this case. In this case our flawed laws allow these theives to continue this illegal act and prosper from it. Time Warner owns this operation and condones this process of theft. Well, Time Warner, every person you steal from may not come back to fight you but I will. I want your account number so I can take some of your money, just because I can...and oh by the way, I have this great t-shirt I'll sell you for $1
