On January 16, 2012, I purchased a book on Amazon.com entitled, "Business Law and the Regulation of Business 9th Edition by a seller named "Bethany House Books".

The seller emailed me to inform me that just as they were about to ship out my book they noticed the condition of the book was not what they had listed. They stated it was in "Used" condition rather than "Brand New" but asked if I wanted the book anyway and to respond to them asap. I told them I wanted the the book and to ship it. They responded to my email on January 20, 2012, stating they had already cancelled my order but that I could re-order it again.

On January 22, 2012, I went onto Amazon.com website and noticed the seller had re-listed the very same book for $136.91. This book was in Brand New condition. In fact, it was the same book that I had ordered and they cancelled.

I contacted Amazon.com representatives about this and asked them if this is a violation of Amazon.com policy for seller to do such practices like this. I was told no and that Amazon takes this very seriously. However, I got the feeling that I was getting the run around. Therefore, they left me no alternative but to file this complaint with Consumer Affairs Department.

I have been a long-time buyer on Amazon.com for 7 years and have always complied with Amazon policy. I asked Amazon if I were a seller would I be allowed to do the same thing that this seller had done to a buyer. I was told no and I even asked what would happen to me as a seller. I was told my account would be placed on hold. Obviously, the seller is still conducting business there and their account has not been put on hold.
