I registered as a student at ABC in DEC 2010. I paid full tuition with the goal of becoming a certified Dog Trainer. On paper the course sounds great. The program is broken out in 3 sections. First, a series of 9 online tests are given over a 4 month period. Once completed there is an "Externship" whereby the student is set up with a local dog trainer/mentor that has been contracted by ABC. The trainer is is not a direct employee of ABC. Their curriculum does not follow the original course material. The trainer may not necessarily have enough dogs to train and there is no consistency in creating a comprehensive training format. And if you live in NYC, there is no understanding of the geography for the purposes of traveling to training locations. In addition once the trainers name is given to the student it is up to the student to contact the trainer and set up the program. I had high hopes for getting this cerification by end of year 2012. But it became very clear to me that ABC is only interested in getting your $$$$. I have a bachelor's degree and worked many years in corporate America. This is a very slick company. I have cancelled my affiliation with this "school" and have requested a refund. For the past 5 years I have supported myself as professional dog walker in NYC and thought this certification would be of benefit to me and my clients. It has caused me nothing but disappointment. ABC is another reason why 3 million dogs are euthanized annually. Shame on them for misleading people who truly want to help animals and their owners.
