I purchased a NOS door, part # 911.531.005.23, to repair a 1978 Porsche 911 turbo coupe from Road & Race Inc. (vendor) for $1,136.98 incl. $109 S&H. The part was received by my body shop with dents. Vendor said he would split the cost to repair said dents with me with a store credit, approximately $80. After repairing and painting the door, the body shop noted that the door belt molding and trim would not fit. Belt molding was also purchased from this same vendor. Numerous attempts to contact the vendor to resolve this were futile, as well as an offer to send back the door at my expense. Further research proved that the part received was not the part that was ordered. Door received was a Porsche Speedster convertible door, part # 911.531.005.62, not suitable for this repair. I disputed the VISA credit card charge thru a charge back that was eventually decided in the vendor’s favor by Bank of America. Vendor even acknowledged that an incorrect part was shipped in the following statement to BOA, but still refused to take further action to rectify this error: "We are in agreement that the item, Dan Hagan received is incorrect, it appears that it was somehow mismarked from the Manufacturer's point of origin, however all we ask is that the item be returned in the same condition, as received. however according to the installation shop that Mr Hagan contracted to do the work for him the item has been modified considerable[sic] from it's original condition said item, has been painted & drilled thus is no longer saleable condition". This door was repaired and painted, but not “drilled”. I have now had to purchase another door to finish this repair.
