On 1/4/12 I found a position advertised on craigslist.com - Dothan, AL as an Administrative Office Assistant with the Boys & Girls Club. I filled out a lengthy application with much personal employment history. After completing the application, at the bottom it stated "if you have gotten this far, you are in the top 5". I was then instructed via link to go to creditreport.com. It stated they would not receive my credit information, but would only receive my name as identification confirmation. I went to that link which required me to subscribe to the service but could cancel within 7 days. I found out on 1/10/12 via a google search that creditreport.com is a scam. I called their number to cancel immediately. "Margaret" offered me a discount to continue with the subscription but I declined. She said she cancelled the subscription while we were speaking. I asked for a confirmation number and she stated I would receive an e-mail with that information. I did not receive an e-mail! I believe I was scammed by craigslist.com, creditreport.com (who now have my credit card #), and Clarke Careers & Partners. The letter from Clarke Careers & Partners is as follows along with my cover letter:



Hello K.,

We would like to thank you for sending your resume to Clarke Careers & Partners. After reviewing your initial credentials, I think you could possibly be a great fit for our company.

Our Human Resource manager would like to schedule an interview with you before she leaves for vacation early next week. You need to complete the pre-interview screening before we can schedule an interview, which can be found at http://career-with-clarke.info or the career link on our homepage. Your applicant code is 913300.

Please write down your code, as that is the only way you can gain access to your application and employee profile. Once you complete your screening someone from HR will contact you within 72 hours to schedule an interview.

  • Thanks for posting on the web, i googled the company before completely filling out the application but I went on to get lower message which is after the application. Of course i didnt put any of my personal information on the application. I got the same exact email but from a "Mark Richards".

    In compliance with the USA Patriot Act 2001, Clarke Careers and Partners is required to maintain documentation confirming the identity of all employees. Our identity verification/background check program is through Experian/Equifax, which is in the form of a credit check. This identity verification is completely free to you while allowing us to receive an electronic response much quicker than traditional background checks (less invasive too). By completing the background check/credit report we will NOT receive any of your private credit history details or personal information. We simply receive your first and last name, and an "Ok" to proceed if there are no background discrepancies.

    This step is required before we are able to schedule an interview. Also, keep in mind that our decision to hire you is not determined at all by your personal credit score or history.

    Please note - for the identity verification/background check we cannot accept a scanned, faxed, or emailed report because we will not be able to electronically verify your identity from our end.
