    • Stonesmiths Custom Granite and Marble Fabrication and Installation Complaint / User Submitted Image #55050

We called Stonesmiths Custom Granite & Marble Fabrication to install our sink. They sent over an employee named Matt to do the job. We paid with a check for $150.00. Before leaving, he said to wait 24 hours before attaching the plumbing. I didn't look at the sink until 24 hours later when I opened up the cabinet to begin attaching the fixtures & found 2 of Matt's "Homemade" brackets had fallen off & were lying on the floor of the cabinet. Upon further inspection, I noticed the sink was installed crooked with no clearance on one side & 1/2 an inch on the other. Additionally, Matt had left eight dents in the stainless steel sink where the clamps came into contact with it. I called back & spoke with Janis, their secretary & told her the story. Matt was next to Janis & relayed that the dents were already on the sink & that despite the fact that two of his brackets made of a sink strainer, masking tape, & glue had fallen off, there should be plenty left to hold the sink in place. I told Janis that I had pictures of the dents Matt left on sink & I assured her that the dents came after Matt's work & that he was lying. Janis asked me to forward them on to her, which I did along with a before Matt's work photo, which I believe they weren't expecting. My wife had taken a picture of the sink right before Matt's work had begun with her cell phone complete with the date & time displayed. This picture clearly shows no pre-existing dents. Instead of Janis, Matt, the manager, or president of the company Jason Lawson calling me back, I received a call from their lawyer at the Massarro Legal Group. He began by telling me how things were going to be & that they were not responsible for any repair work to the sink or its replacement. I asked him if he had seen the before & after pictures, he replied that there were dents in both. He further told me not to contact Angie's List or the B.B.B or I would live to regret it. I said there was no need for any further conversation & hung up the phone.

  • Please be advised that we have been notified of a complaint filed by Mr. Bradley Holmes with Scam Book regarding the installation of a sink by Stonesmiths, Inc. I have attached a copy of Mr. Holmes’ complaint hereto for your convenience. Please allow this letter to serve as a formal response in opposition to Mr. Holmes’ complaint.
It is always unfortunate to have a customer dissatisfied with work performed. However, while complaints are inevitable they are not always valid. Stonesmiths, Inc. is of the firm position that Mr. Holmes’ complaint lacks merit. By way of background, Stonesmiths, Inc. was retained by Mr. Holmes on or about December 20, 2011 to reinstall an existing sink in his home that had detached from the underside of his existing countertop. According to Mr. Holmes, the sink was at least two (2) years old at the time Stonesmiths, Inc. was contacted and the entire cost of the job was $150.00. The deplorable condition of the sink can be clearly seen in Mr. Holmes’ “SINK BEFORE REPAIR” cell phone picture he (or his wife) took prior to Stonesmiths’ retention. That picture is provided herein for your convenience.
Stonesmiths, Inc. sent Matt Spannan to Mr. Holmes house on or about December 21, 2011 to reinstall the sink, which he did. It became evident upon Matt’s arrival that the two (2) year old sink had several dents and scratches in it. These are the very dents and scratches to which Mr. Holmes now complains. Matt, despite the condition of the materials, completed the reinstallation in a professional manner. However, on December 27, 2011, Mr. Holmes contacted the Stonesmiths office demanding replacement of his sink and made numerous threats of litigation and consumer complaints to a wide variety of public access domains. In essence, Mr. Holmes threatened to run a disparaging campaign against Stonesmiths, Inc. unless Stonesmiths complied with his every demand which included replacement of the sink, an apology from Stonesmiths, Inc, and the installer, Matt, for “lying,” and replacement of clamps (some of which had allegedly fallen of yet, nonetheless, enough remained to keep the sink installed).
Given the gravity of Mr. Holmes’ threats and, in particular, threats of litigation, Stonesmiths, Inc. forwarded to its counsel, Jason M. Massaro of The Massaro Legal Group, LLC, all information and pictures it had on the matter and discussed the issue with Mr. Massaro. Stonesmiths, Inc.’s position on the matter was relayed to Mr. Massaro and Mr. Massaro made contact with Mr. Holmes. Specifically, Mr. Massaro indicated to Mr. Holmes that Stonesmiths, Inc. was willing to revisit his home and readjust the sink to correct any purported uneven gaps around the edges. However, it was relayed to Mr. Holmes that Stonesmiths was not willing to replace the sink in that Stonesmiths did not believe it caused any damage.
Stonesmiths, Inc. refused to replace the top for a variety of reasons. One fact was that Matt Spannan visually inspected the sink on site and was confident that the dents and scratches complained of were pre-existing. Further, the clamping process to secure the sink was never from the inside of the sink to cause a dent as described. All clamping was done from underneath and outside of the sink. This is a crucial factor. If a dent were caused by such clamping, the dents would be in the opposite direction. Moreover, Stonesmiths, Inc. strongly felt that the “SINK BEFORE REPAIR” picture, despite its graininess, clearly showed the dents and scratches of which Mr. Holmes complained as shown more clearly in the “Sink 6.jpg” picture. That picture is also provided herein for your convenience. Stonesmiths, Inc. also found it suspect that a pre-repair picture would be taken under these circumstances given that there was no consequential damage as a result of the sink falling in and Mr. Holmes, upon information and belief, was not making a claim to his insurance company.
Stonesmiths, Inc.’s level of customer service is exemplary as shown by its six (6) years of servicing Indianapolis and cities in the surrounding counties. Stonesmiths is most certainly not a “fly by night” company and its counsel is more professional than to tell Mr. Holmes that “he would live to regret” anything. Stonesmiths, Inc. is bonded and insured, a member of the Marble Institute of America, and adheres to all industry standards. In addition, Stonesmiths is the proud winner of two (2) “Angie’s List Super Service Awards” and maintains an “A” rating with the Better Business Bureau. Furthermore, Stonesmiths, Inc. is a family owned and operated company and has the utmost respect for current servicemen as well as all Veterans like Mr. Holmes.
This situation is very disturbing to our company as we pride ourselves on our craftsmanship as well as our excellent customer service. The photos Mr. Holmes provided clearly show that there was misuse to his sink long before we were contracted to reinstall the sink, which Stonesmiths did as requested. All of our employees are fully trained and know the importance of quality craftsmanship.
Stonesmiths, Inc. hopes that this sheds some light on this complaint and the true background regarding the matter. We further hope that this explanation will cause a dismissal of Mr. Holmes’ unfounded charges and allow Stonesmiths, Inc. to continue to operate with Angie’s List and the Better Business Bureau with an untarnished reputation.
Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. If you have any questions or comments concerning this issue or need additional information, please do not hesitate to contact our offices at (317) 770-1333.
    Sincerely,
    Jason Lawson, President
