I needed a report on a car I was considering purchasing, and saw the website CarVINHistory.com promising one complete car VIN history for the low introductory price of $2.95 with enrollment, and that after 3 days my credit card would be charged the monthly fee of about $30, but that I could cancel at any time by calling 1-888-613-1485. I entered my credit card information and then tried to log in to view the promised report, but instead got an error message saying "error Your account is currently disabled. Please contact us for more informaion." So I tried to call the only number on the website, 1-888-613-1485. After waiting on hold for a few minutes, and being in a rush, I tried entering information from a second credit card, but with identical results. I tried calling the phone number again, and received a message stating that they were having technical difficulties and to please try my call again in an hour or two. After trying again multiple times yesterday and today, and receiving the same message, I suspected a scam, googled CarVINHistory.com, and found this website. So it looks like I'm another scam victim. So far I've only been charged the $2.95 (without ever receiving the promised report), but it hasn't been 3 days yet. I called my credit cards to ask whether they recommend closing the account and reopening another one, and they actually recommended keeping the account open and allowing them to dispute the future charges when they occur. They said that closing and reopening another account with them won't help because CarVINHistory.com would still have authorization to charge the new account, and that it would be easier for the credit card company to reverse charges as necessary without multiplying accounts. So we'll see how this all turns out...

  • I was doing some research on my car and tried using carvinhistory.com and paid $2.95 for 1 history report. Which the report came up blank and told me that my vehicle did not exist or I had entered the wrong Vin number. 6 days later I see that my card was being billed for $29.95 which I did not authorize. I called to stop the payment and got a cancellation number and was told that they would not take any payments out but the payment went through anyways and now I am out $29.95 plus $2.95 without anything to show for. So I called back demanding that I get a refund and was told that they would only refund me 50% of my $29.95 which was about $14. Ticks me off to no end to know that there are companies that do this and then do not deliver on the service that they provide or are supposed to provide. Its frickin B.S.
