International boundaries

I, as well as many other Canadians, have been receiving calls from the number 210-301-0307 multiple times a week, sometimes multiple times a day. When I searched the number I found that mcimetro was the provider of this number. I have notified the US Federal Trade Commision.
Basically, you answer the phone, hear a ships horn and hear "This is your captain speaking..." telling me I have won a trip on a cruise ship. I have never let it go any farther than that, I just hang up but I am really starting to get annoyed.
On message boards I read relating to this number it seems a lot of the calls are being made to Canada which, I learned from the US Federal Trade Commision is because there is no international protection.
I'm not sure if there is really anything you can do about this except maybe provide me with a name so I can continue pursuing this to make these calls stop.
Thanks you

  • Our household (also in Canada, incidentally) has received countless calls in the past few weeks from an organization posing as WestJet. Each call is the same: a very poor recording begins with, “As a valued WestJet customer…” I usually hang up after hearing this introduction. Neither of us flies WestJet, so it makes no sense whatsoever that we would be deemed “valued” customers, let alone customers at all.

On every occasion, our CallerID says simply “Unknown Name/Unknown Number”.

The most recent of these calls came in at 1:04 p.m. on Saturday, November 10, 2012. Unlike the flurry of other calls, this time, the CallerID identified the call as coming from
    Unknown Name
    210.301.0307

According to an article I found online (http://digitaljournal.com/article/314419), this number is not assigned, but is, instead, an auto dialler in San Antonio, Texas.

After pressing 1 to speak to a person, a woman answered and said, “Hello?” After I asked, “Is this the ‘supposed’ WestJet promotion?’”, she hung up on me. I used the *57 feature after hanging up to activate the Call Trace feature.

I do realize that, if no actual crime is being perpetrated, there is little law enforcement authorities can do. However, these calls are annoying in their frequency and, if they are, in fact, part of a larger phone scam, they are not only fraudulent in nature, but also damaging to WestJet’s corporate brand and reputation.
