I had met a male on plentyoffish.com who said he was overseas touring in Iraq. He claimed to be part of the U.S. Military. His e-mail address is [email protected]. He exchanged emails with me back and forth for about a month. Then he asked me to wire $100.00 dollars to his son who was studying abroad in Canada. Shortly there after he asked me if he could send me a package. He already had my address, and without my consent he put my information on it. He said he was sending me 1.2 million dollars from Iraq via a Diplomat who would hand deliver it to me. I didn't have a chance to say no before the package was enroute. The "diplomat" got my number and we stayed in contact via the phone and E-Mail on his whereabouts. Today I recieved a nasty email from the "diplomat" who said he was stuck in Ghana with no more money to get past customs so that he could deliver the package to me. He asked me to wire 2,000.00 dollars to Ghana so he could finish the trip. I became suspicious of the whole thing when the email began getting nasty. Then I went to try to wire the money to Ghana and was told that I could not wire any money there because of the high amount of fraud taking place. I had a feeling this was a scam, but the man I met online seemed so genuine and sincere. I am glad that I only lost out on 100.00 dollars, but still someone should know that they are posing as American soldiers on dating websites and attempting to get people to wire them money.

  • Samantha,

I posted this on behalf of a friend of mine. There was no actual money sent. This short description does not adequately desrcibe the circumstances under which this attempted scam occurred. You should not post such negative comments on something this is used to HELP people avoid being scammed. I was NOT scammed for anything, and neither was my friend. I resent your comment about being an idiot because something tells me I am far more educated than you are. Once again, this short description was meant to prevent others from being scammed on behalf of military dating websites, as well as to bring awareness to the issue of scams taking place by individuals who are claiming to be members of OUR branches of defense. I honestly do not think someone like yourself should be using a website if what you do is make derogatory comments to others about their experiences. If you are not on here to learn about current scams in an attempt to avoid them, then delete your account. AND, you should not insult someone you do not even know via the internet. I know that I am not a moron, so your immature comment will not bother me. But please do not comment on my post if you have nothing productive or informing to say.
    Thanks

  • First of all you obviously did send the guy money or you 1. would NOT have posted this and A. would NOT have gotten your panties all in a wad about the fact that you are a complete idiot. Third of all you stupid cunt, i trust that since i am not as stupid as you are, i could have dropped out of school in 3rd grade and still be smarter than you are. Trust me, you are so not more educated than I am and even if you were, only a friggin idiot would send money because a guy in the military said he was madly in love with her and needed money. I've seen this scam before a few times on pof and on match.com and it didn't take too long for me to realize it was fake. So go fuck yourself you stupid bitch. Now go ahead..write you lame response.

" I know that I am not a moron, so your immature comment will not bother me. But please do not comment on my post if you have nothing productive or informing to say."

You believed a guy in the military that said he was in love with you and needed money so you sent it..And you don't think you are a moron? Uh huh..you would have NEVER posted this scam if it didn't happen like you claim it did because i have seen it about three times. I just wasn't stupid enough to fall from it. Only white trash would fall for it which is who the scam artists target. They hit the nail on the head with you. Go ahead ONCE AGAIN try to tell me off...tell me how smart you are, how you didn't fall for this, how i am stupid and uneducated and whatever else you want to say but keep in mind that you are the idiot that fell for and posted this scam and 99 percent of people who read it will agree that you are a fucking moron. Bye asshole

  • As much as you would love for me to feed into this, I do not stoop to childish levels. And that mouth of yours shows the level of class you have, so before you go calling people white trash or other foul names, you should probably look in the mirror. I do not fight over the Internet, I try to avoid confrontation all together. People like you make the attempt to help others so difficult because of the nasty and immature things that you say. But I hope your degrading rant made you feel better.
