Suddenly, this charge for $59.66 dated Dec. 29, 2017, from "Comenity Pay Sb Phone Pymt" appeared as a PREAUTHORIZED DEBIT on my bank statement for my checking account. I certainly never pre-authorized any such debit! I have a new Discover card and paid my first bill on it by phone sometime around this date, so I assume the charge is connected to that. But no one on Discovery Card's end ever mentioned that charges (of nearly $60!!) would accompany any kind of phone payment. Had they done so, I would not have made the payment this way. I am going to call Discover Card and hash it out with them. There should, however, be some sort of Notification to customer required before some bank can jump in and make a cool $60 over the fact that the unwitting customer just paid his or her bill by phone. The Consumer Protection Agency was created to go after nasty little bank gigs like this one (if the CPA hasn't yet been shut down by our ever so bank-friendly president , who is, I believe, now planning to destroy this agency by appointing a "freedom caucus" Republican congressional antagonist of the Agency to head it up--- like his appointment of Scott Pruitt to run EPA and so on down the line) If the CPA were able to review this, it should be exactly the classic kind of case that CPA was created to go after--- attaching a bank charge without ever having warned or notified the consumer that it would be attached if the consumer did something really noxious like make a credit card payment by phone!
