I submitted a survey for Amazon products purchased and after submitting I was told that I could choose one of about six gifts for submitting the survey for only paying a $5.99 shipping and handling charge. I paid this charge Nov 16 on my Cardmember Service credit card and I received the watch soon after. At no time did I see that I was being signed up for a "Watch of the month" arrangement. I decided to keep the watch but on about Jan.5th I received another watch and another $98 charge Jan 3rd. I checked the internet and discovered that another person who also was surprised by this scam was told to return the watch with a letter opting out of this arrangement and he would receive a reversal for the January $98.00 charge. I promptly returned the second watch with my letter opting out of this arrangement and received a certified return receipt signed and received Jan 10th.
Allegro obviously received my opt-out letter because they showed my account as closed but they claimed they did not have a record of having received the returned watch. They claimed that I should have received a pop-up on their web site which supposedly explained the "Watch of the Month" arrangement and instructions that they claimed called for my calling them before returning the watch. I did not get any such popup and neither did others who lodged similar complaints. Allegro said they would not reverse the charges for the second watch.
