To Whom It May Concern:

On December 24, 2016, I had a most unpleasant experience with Reservation-Desk, com. On Christmas Day, I was coming to Timonium, Maryland, to have dinner with my sister and her family. I am a Catholic priest and usually stay with a classmate, who is the pastor of a parish outside Baltimore. While he said he had room for me, he himself would be away, so I decided to book a room at the Holiday Inn in Timonium, where I had stayed before. I used the internet site for the hotel and clicked on reservations. I was under the impression that this meant the reservations for the Holiday Inn, since I never consciously left their site. When the reservation site came up, it said the rooms—all of them—were $115/night. In addition, the statement said there was an additional $39.09 for “Taxes & Fees.” I did not remember Maryland having such high taxes on hotel rooms, but know that other states do. Although this was much higher than I was used to paying, owing to the late notice I was giving, I clicked on the reservation, the total charge for which was $159.08. When leaving the hotel on December 26, I found a receipt for my room under my door for $105.00. I brought this to the attention of a very nice and helpful clerk at the hotel desk. She informed me that what was slipped under my door was a mistake and that I had booked a room, not through the hotel, but through Reservation-Desk, whose price was more than $50.00 more. She advised me always to call the hotel directly. I am also notifying Holiday Inn of the possibility of their site being hacked or skimmed by Reservation-Desk.
