I signed a 2 year lease agreement in April to move into house at Varina area on May 2nd. I moved from Lansing MI, and on the move-in date was told to come to the office to pick up the keys. After 20 minutes, I was told the keys were in a lock box. Got to the house, and people were at work at the house, fixing things and using MY electricity. I had had the utilities changed to my name that day. Gas could not be turned on because there had been a leak months earlier that had not been fixed. Long story short, the house was abandoned for 2 years, made to look good, and everything began to fall apart. The faucet in one bathroom did not shut off, the toilets did not fill with water, the hot and cold water pipes where switched, so you got hot water as soon as you turn the faucets, and I had to set my washer to hot wash to wash my clothes with cold water. Bugs and centipedes came out of the drain snd crawled all over the walls. Finally in June, the ceiling caved in, and no one came to check the house until I moved out in early July. By then I decided not to pay rent. I was taken to court for not paying my rent, and to my surprise the representative for Henry Briggs decided to use my deposit for the missed rent though they had threatened me and said they would not. Getting anyone to look into my case has been impossible. The cost is unquantifiable, because my kids were traumatized by the move to a different part of town when they had just moved and were beginning to make friends. I had to pay to move again, and unfortunately, I had to pay for a house $300 more than what I had paid Henry Briggs. The deals I got on my cable and Internet were unavailable when I moved, and if I include pain and suffering, they owe me at least $10k.
