Last weekend I had the worst manicure of my life done at Brava. I went in for a classic manicure, but unfortunately almost all of the OPI polishes they had were old and too dried out and/or sticky to use (they were most likely the same polishes that were there before the new management took over.) The esthetician then suggested I get shellac polish instead and said she wouldn't charge me extra, and while that wasn't what I wanted I agreed because I was left with no choice. She gave me a hand massage with hand cream that looked like it was growing mold at the bottom. Then, when she was filing my nails she kept making them crooked and I had to keep pointing it out to her. After she finished applying the shellac polish she wiped alcohol over my hands which not only turned my hands white but stripped off some of the nail colour, resulting in her having to re-apply it. I thought the shellac application looked decent, but Brava's lighting is quite dim and when I got out of the salon and into the sunlight I was appalled. It looked messy, bumpy, and my nails were not presentable at all. I immediately went back to Brava and said I wanted my money back ($21) and also wanted the shellac removed. The woman at the front counter said that if I wanted the shellac removed, I would have to pay another $5. I told her there was no way I was paying extra on top of the $21 I already paid when my nails looked as terrible as they did, and, after arguing with her about it for a few minutes, they finally agreed to remove it. She said that if I wanted the $21 refunded I would have to wait to speak to the manager, Frank, who was away on vacation in Mexico at the time. (Funny, he can afford a trip to mexico but can't afford to supply his salon with products that aren't old/out of date.) Which brings me to this weekend (January 9th, 2015.) I went back to Brava, Frank was there, explained the situation (which he seemed to be already aware of and didn't even bother to call me to apologize or attempt to rectify the situation), and he told me that they have a "NO REFUNDS POLICY." I found this unbelievable, as no where in the store does it state this, nor on their website. He said that because they use their products on people and because the staff spend their time on people, they do not offer refunds to anyone. Needless to say, I was quite angry. I am not sure how Frank or any of the staff at Brava can feel good about themselves if they're actually okay with offering atrocious service to clients and taking their money as a result. It is of my opinion that Brava salon is nothing but a scam, and as a result I will be contacting the RCMP about Brava's suspected fraudulent service/operation. I'm even considering contacting the media to see if enough interest can be garnered for one of the news stations or papers to run a story on this, as I'm clearly not the first person who has had an issue here. Additionally, I've also filed a complaint against Brava with the Better Business Bureau (who they have an F-rating with!) Everyone should avoid Brava if they know what's good for them.
