had a call at 7:45pm EST from a person with a heavy indian accent stating that he is calling in regards to some legal procedings against me by the U.S. Department of the Treasury due to Income Tax filing issues. I asked for a case number and This person stated my name and address instead, claiming he is unauthorized to provided any case number or summary, but rather to call an officer, a certain 'Steve Smith' supposedly handling this case. The number given was 323-774-1854.
I asked this person which company or entity he is associated with and he would not provide information other than I have until Monday, June 15th to call the case officer or face legal action. I informed this person that I have not received any notice from any Federal agency - The U.S Treasury Department or the Internal Revenue Service in particular. I also informed this person that serious matters such as this would be via direct official written correspondence and not through third party channels. During the entire conversation i noticed hearing beeps every minute - typical of overseas long distance calls. Caller ended conversation by hanging up abruptly.
