This time they have changed their strategy. Met a "nice" man on a dating site. Chatted and he said he'd be sending me a gift. Sent it with Global Express Diplomatic Courier Services. He told me that he was told there would be a customs clearance fee to pay on my side. That was the first red flag as in SA not all items have customs duty and any idiot with half a brain can Google our import regulations. Told him that is fine. Then this "Courier rep" phones and tells me I need to pay the amount of R4800 in order to claim the parcel that was now at OR Thembo International. I played along and said that is fine. He phone from a cell number and then SMS'd me an account number. Having worked with lots of companies I knew this was not a company number, but a private one. This was red flag number two. Then the man who sent me the parcel phoned all out of breath saying I must sort the courier out quickly as they are saying I am not paying. My answer, No problem, my friend that works in Customs will sort it out for me!(White Lie) Well, later I send the "Courier" an sms asking him to please submit the banking details on a company letter head along with a copy of his ID/Passport to proof he is really legit.Not a word! Well I am happy to say I am not out of pocket and that this wonderful "courier" best stay under the radar as my cop friends are looking for him. O, and the nice man from the datesite....the "courier" sounded allot like him!! Its awful how people can con innocent people out of cash like that. Hope they get caught really soon!
