I am currently in Australia and I have just experienced cyber crime committed by someone in Lagos, Nigeria.

I sold an eBay item (Samsung phone worth AU$285), and the buyer claimed that he has transferred the fund through bank transfer. His eBay account says that he is in the UK, and he wanted me to ship the phone to his friend over in Nigeria to his address below:

Joseph Mathew
18, Alves Street,
Lawanson
Mushin
Lagos
23401
Nigeria.

The buyer then faked a Citibank email, and sent me an email stating that the fund has been held on hold until I have provided a proof of shipment.

A couple of days later, I received an email from the Nigerian Custom, which he faked it as well, saying that I should transfer US$180 through Western Union since the item I am shipping has been seized by the custom. After I sent the money, the Custom sent me another email stating that I am required to transfer an additional US$380, or else the item will be destroyed. And I have not received any money until now.

Long story short; he faked an email address ([email protected]), the Nigerian Customs email ([email protected]), as well as Citibank email address ([email protected]). I can provide you with the emails I received from these three email addresses.

I sent the money through Western Union to the following receiver:
Receivers Name: Mr Akagbusi Ifeanyi,
Receivers Address: 128 Lambadi Road,
State : Lagos
Zipcde : 23401
Country : Nigeria

I hope I can get some help from the Nigerian authorities, since the Australian authorities has no power beyond the Australian jurisdiction. I am looking forward to a response. Thank you
