I was searching the web for information about a property I own in Fort Meyers, FL. I came across the house reports web-site and from the description it seemed like they could provide the information I wanted. I followed the instructions to submit the address and then was informed that there would be a charge of 95 cents, which seemed reasonable. I agreed to pay that fee, but no other. The web site gave the typical message - "wait while we retrieve your information. This may take a few minutes." The web-site appeared to be producing results, but when the search page finally appeared on the screen all of the information fields read "na". I thought perhaps I had given a property address that was too general, so I went through the process a second time giving a more specific address. The report result was the same - " na" in all fields. I attempted a third time to get the information, believing that I was only risking 95 cents, but that attempt was also nothing but "na" in every field on the report.
I contacted their customer service via web. I reported my complaint to them and I was assured that someone would research the problem and get back to me that day. After two days had passed with no contact I again reached out to their customer service. I was told a refund would be issued, which it was for 95 cents. When I received my credit card bill I was shocked to see $17.49 charged for three searches, .95 cents charged twice and the one refund for .95 cents! The customer service rep finally replied with an e- mail that was obviously a form letter. Essentially it stated " we are sorry your search was unsuccessful". There was no evidence of "researching the problem."
Aside from the ridiculous hidden fees, I question why a company would charge for a service that provided NO service.
This company is an example of the worst of internet business. They should be put OUT of business.
P.S. I intend to contact my credit card company immediately to have them withhold payment against Housereports.org.
