I bought a salon from a man who wanted me to keep the computer terminal in the salon after purchased. He told me that there wasn't a lease and could be cancelled at any time if I didn't like it. Even another girl looking at the salon before me, had been told the same thing by the old owner. So when I went to transfer the paperwork into the corporations name, they sent paperwork calling it a lease. I talked to them by phone many many times and told them that I didn't want a lease that I wanted a transfer from the old owner... the same thing he had which was "can get out of it at any time." Everytime they sent paperwork that said lease on it, I personally wrote a little clause at the bottom of the page when I signed. THey kept sending the paperwork back. Finally they called and I was told it wasn't really a lease but it had to be done that way in order to protect their equipment. Then the old owner had screwed me in a huge way. He knew what he had done and then sent an attorney over to make me sign it..... so when the man came into the salon and said sign this, I didn't know what to do but sign. Well hind site is 20/20 but then I signed it out of intimidation. Soon I got this form in the mail saying that the charges would be $179 a month which was way more than the old owner said he was paying. It was supposed to be a name transfer only... not a new lease... and it wasn't supposed to be a lease at all.. only written that way to protect the equipment. Anyway, I soon found out the reason for the attorney thing from the old owner... he had turned my stylist in for no license when he worked her for 2.5 yrs and sold me the salon that everyone was properly licensed. She had to quit work till she could transfer her NY license to Colorado. Now I was without NO income. Not only that, mbf automatically withdrew anywhere from $200 to $250 out of my account without any warning. I was already operating on fumes as it was. So I called MBF and they told me that it was "late charges". Let me specify that they were automatically taking out the fee and they were doing it late so they could charge me a late fee. They said they would fix it but they never did. After several months of this I wrote a letter to MBF and closed my account. They continued to send me threatening letters and keep adding on charges till now it is up to $10,000. Then they kept calling my business interrupting business at least 10 times a day, super harassing me and I couldn't even work in the salon without them constantly harassing me. I asked them to stop but they never did. My employees finally got to the point that when they saw the number they picked the phone up and hung it back up. This still didn't stop. They harassed me for 6 months. Now I just have threatening court charges. AND... if that is not enough they illegally reported me to the credit bureau in my name, not the corporation. That is a fraudulent charge right there. They have messed up my credit and this is a corporation... not a personal account, on top of taking more money out of my checking without approval first. Even if this was supposed to be a lease - they broke it long before i did. However, this is all a total scam and lie and manipulation to get what they want. A totally bad, lying company. Stay away from them. I guess I will wait for a letter telling me to go to court and then I will have to counter sue. Just bad business and illegal, unethical company.
