A girl came to my door and spoke about a competition for young business leaders. They earned points by selling books and magazines and additional points for asking about our personal lives. Serving in the military or being in college apparently increased the number of points they got if they managed to make a sale to us. The winner would be taking a trip to Australia and get a grant to help them start their own business. Believing it completely and hoping I would get the items for christmas, I purchased some children's books for my daughter and a game developer magazine subscription for myself. When they didn't arrive, I went to their site expecting to be able to track my order like the girl said I would be able to. I put my information in and instead of a tracking page, there was a completely useless list of "common questions" asked by people and the answers. I sent an email to the company. They responded that I'd have to wait at least 3 months to lodge a complaint and that even if the stuff didn't arrive after 3 months, it was common to have to wait for 120 days. I asked if I could get my money refunded and was told that cancellations were not accepted after the 3rd business day after the original sale date. This is printed on the receipt, but was explained to me by the girl selling as only for people who change their minds and not for people who never receive their order. She assured me that I would be able to speak to someone if anything went wrong. Hindsight, I should have seen it coming. I was told that payment had to be a check or cash and on the spot because "for their safety, participants were not permitted to revisit the places they spoke to previously." And If they couldn't make the sale immediately, they lost points. She could not provide me with a personal phone number for herself or her supervisor as the company was trying to "protect their sellers". Don't be scammed. Don't let these people into your home.
