I needed my birth certificate for my passport. A quick Google search had these guys come out on top. Only $60 for a birth certificate - more expensive than vital statistics but easily done online so I went ahead. Two weeks later I contacted Manitoba Vital Statistics to check on the status of my application and they told me that they've received no such thing. I tried phoning CanadianBirthCertificate.com but their phone directory just loops you around - can't talk to a real person. I emailed them but have of course received no reply.
