I was searching adoptable puppies for Christmas and came across a listing for 10 month old golden retrievers one boy, one girl (which is clever in retrospect I guess). The cost was $350 and the guy, "Major Allen" stated that he was military stationed in Germany and just wanted to find the puppies a good home if you would answer a few questions... and all you would have to cover was the shipping.

I emailed back and forth with Mr "Allen" several times and he even attached a scan of his id so that I would "know it was legitimate". He seemed genuinely concerned about the puppy's welfare and care, so I never considered that he was part of some scam at all.

Then I got an email from the travel agency with instructions to pay with Moneypak cards bought at Walmart, CVS, etc and only paid with cash. I paid the $350 and emailed Allen to let him know. Then I get another email the next day from the travel agency saying the crate Major Allen provided wasn't sufficient and I needed to purchase one from them for $675 and it would be refunded to me upon safe arrival. I was thrown by this and contacted Allen who apologized and said he would make sure the refund happened and everything. I had trouble finding a place that sold the cards where I live and tracked them down, concerned about my puppy waiting there. Then once I pay that, I get an email in the morning saying the puppy is being held at the airport in France and I have to pay an insurance fee and immunization shots within 24hours or he will be held in quarantine for 2 months and I will be charged with animal abuse. The total cost for this was to be $2500. I started to freak out and emailed the seller again and the travel agency. Then while waiting for a response I decided to search the travel agency because I started to feel like it was becoming just one thing after another and wanted to see their reviews. Then I saw that the only mention of them was in relation to scams and I feel like a complete fool. I wish I had just done my research earlier on. I knew in my gut something was weird about a company having me pay with those cards when there are sites like paypal out there now. Obviously now I realize there's no trace on their end that way. I'm not sure what I can do from here if I can do anything. I'm just sick over it.
