ancestor.com and instant checkmate

I did a google search for an old friend. Ancestor.com popped up and said they had details on that old friend and I could obtain them free. Then the ad asked me to provide my credit card with the promise it wouldn't be billed, if I cancelled before the end of the trial period of 14 days. I accepted and gave them my charge number. The next screen was from Instant CheckMate and had a video saying that there were 10 criminal acts in the folder about my friend and giving me advice about how to react. Then it went through a rigamorole of several minutes supposedly downloading details. Finally a sign saying I'd have to pay $1.99 for a PDF file print. Sounded stupid, but supposedly I was getting pages and pages of info. I accepted that stupid charge (who doesn't have PDF?) Then I got my report. It had my friends name and a telephone number. No more talk about a free trial, they charged by credit card with both the fee to join and the PDF charge. This happened to me years ago, also Ancestor.com, and not only didn't I get my money back, but they continued to bill my account for monthly membership charges for six months.
