Our company paid $1465 for 9 rooms on 6/30/11 for a trade show the week of 10/24/11. Our people showed up to the hotel yesterday and after 3 hours of research, it turned out IEP NEVER scheduled the reservation. This left our people scrambling to find rooms elsewhere and when we asked for a refund, here's the lame email we received...

Dear International Events Clientele:

It has come to our attention that one of International Events' suppliers has either failed, or is on the verge of failing. I do not know the reason for the failure, but our current economic malaise is likely basis enough to guess at the cause. Nevertheless, the reason I am telling you is that this particular vendor had accepted room deposit money from us, but can no longer deliver the rooms, or return the money. As a result, International Events may not be able to provide you with the rooms you reserved. It is our intent to refund any deposit moneys received, however, the repayment will have to come from our profits. Therefore, we may need some time to fully repay you.

We recognize the fact that we have many clients who currently have hotel accommodations booked with our office and it should be noted that for the most part, all of the rooms reserved are still in good standing. All of our clients are extremely precious to us and we do not want to have any single client lose rooms do to this situation.

Please contact our office immediately regarding your reservations so that we may make sure your housing needs are met and so we may put you in contact with the appropriate vendors in order to finalize your current bookings. You can email our reservations department at [email protected], [email protected] or [email protected]. Please do not email all three addresses as this will only cause confusion and delay. Any one of these addresses will work just fine.

It is our company’s greatest desire to stand tall in the face of this adversity and to keep our commitments and our word to all of those who have entrusted us over the years. We have no plans to shut our doors. Our only plan is to get back on our feet and overcome this very difficult and strenuous circumstance. We are fully committed to resolving our debt with each and every client; however, the outcome of what will happen depends largely upon you. We are obviously in a situation where we are fighting off extreme financial difficulty do to this hardship.

After exploring our options and attempting to decide which direction to go, we have spoken with our legal advisers and have come up with two possible scenarios:

1. We too can throw up our hands and declare bankruptcy and call it quits or
2. We can work to pay back all of our debts to those who have trusted us so dearly.

The answer to which direction to go depends upon you. If all of the businesses to which we are indebted come at us at once demanding payment than the result will be like a house of cards in the wind and it will all come crashing down. To the contrary, however, if we can be given a deferment to allow us to continue to do business in a profitable manner, then we will have an excellent chance at repaying our debts. Please contact our accounting department to discuss repayment options for your particular company or group at [email protected].

In closing, we are extremely sorrowful to have to deliver this news and we deeply regret the impact this will have on your company and/or you personally. Our office staff will be on hand, ready to address all of your questions and concerns whenever you need us. Thank you so much for your time, your business, your trust and your patience. Remember, we are here for you!

Sincerely,

The International Events Management Team

  • Please be aware that International Events, AKA, IEP Group, AKA IEP Inc; in the past, known as Itravel, is located on Rainbow Blvd in Las Vegas. The doors to this company were locked as of 1-16-12 with no notification to some employees that they would be closed. It is rumored that they will open again under another name or possibly another address which they have done in the past. They also have another address listed on Lindell Road in Las Vegas, but that is their old address. They continue to use this address on letter head or on other websites so please be aware of those as well. This company had changed their name from Itravel to International Events due to customer complaints (see Itravel at BBB website) and may change their name again. The vice president of the company, Jason T. Hearne (also wife, listed as owner-Vanessa Hearne) and Director of Sales, Tony Carey along with other employees continue to use the same business model of soliciting companies over the phone to offer wholesale/discounted rates for hotel rooms for Tradeshows in cities Worldwide with the policy of paying for the rooms upfront "to get the best rate." They also continue to hire sales representatives because the majority of sales representatives left the company (because the employees found out that consumers were not getting the products and services they paid for). They continue to hire new representatives because new representatives are unsuspecting at first. There has been almost 100% turnover in staff since the beginning of 2011, with only a few left. It is presumed that the employees that remain know of the companies mode of operation and are getting some sort of kickback or payout from the company to continue to work there.
There have been multiple complaints (see BBB website under International Events) from consumers that International Events does not pay for the rooms or do not confirm the reservation. Thus when the consumer gets to the hotel, the rooms have either been cancelled or not paid for. The company has used excuses such as their wholesaler went out of business, or that the company was facing financial difficulties and could not honor their obligations to hotels. Also, attempts to get refunds have been unsuccessful. Until they are stopped by authorities, they will continue to run their business this way, presuming to take the money and doing something with it (rumored land purchases, vacations, off shore accounts, homes etc) Employees and Customers have had complaints into the Attorney General since September of 2011. At this point there has been no action taken by the Attorney General.
