I am a Commercial Pilot, single/multi-engine land with an instrument rating. As I have aged and my eye sight degraded I wanted to still fly. I purchased Virtual Pilot to practice flying. I found that airport markings do not comply with the FAA and the airports are not positioned properly (Seattle is not on the water but several miles inland). VFR navigation procedures have nothing in common with navigation real world practices and IFR procedures are totally not realistic nor iaw the FAA. For example, GPS is not representative of a real GPS. The software is designed more for a computer programmer than a pilot. The need to build a joy stick interface is absurd in this day and age. I have not been able to even use the Cessna 172P ( I have 132 hrs in type) since their are no "Tabs" such as "Environment", "Equipment" or "Help" etc. I might point out the 172P trainer doesn't have a Transponder, required in all controlled airspace. Additionally, I have not been able to load additional terrain or aircraft. When following the provided help files I found that they appear to be out of date since they didn't work. I will say that for training Student Pilots, the feature of flying the airport pattern in the cockpit view, then replaying in the fly-by view would be helpful to flight instructors to point out student errors. I have found that Microsoft Flight Simulator is more realistic in the areas of VFR/IFR Navigation and airport markings, but is soft in aircraft performance. Unfortunately, FSX is nor compilable with Windows 8.1 and I think is not supported by Microsoft anymore. This leaves X-Plane witch dose have very good aerodynamic properties, the rest I don't have experience to evaluate since I just ordered the game.
