My Partner purchased an Engagement Ring for $8000, under the impression that it was of flawless, high quality.

After all the excitement of the engagement settling, we noticed what looks like dark marks all through the diamond (1c, so its big enough to look trough) and a dark shadowing of a crack.

Unfortunately we had to take the ring back to be taken down in sizes, unsure of how many (the staff weren't very happy to see us return and having to help us after the sale was complete) upon getting the ring home (over an hour drive) I had noticed that the ring clicked when shaken and the diamond could be turned! I was mortified! it wasn't checked and that I had to return it.

I took the ring to another jewelers and was told it would be over $300 as the diamond needed to be cut out and reset completely, after the amount spent on the ring we refused to fork out more on poor workmanship on their part.

The ring is STILL with Zamel's, dropped off on Tuesday for a promised Thursday return to receive a call on Wednesday letting us know that it can't be picked up until the following Tuesday.

So now everyone at the Engagement Party will get the story when they ask to see my ring this Saturday.

All in all my partner can't get over how lovely the staff were upon the sale and how unhelpful a certain few were upon helping us with resizing and returns. Once we get the ring back we will take it to trusted Jeweler and have it revalued, we know it will shock us upon its return and unfortunately we have been told by staff that "you purchased that particular Diamond".

  • I am glad I'm not the only one who was treated badly by Zamel's. We are in the process of trying to get a refund on a sterling silver ring I purchased for my husband for our 10th anniversary which ended up with black pitting, awful peeling and scratching after just 1 week of wear! My husband works in an office and did not damage his ring, these people were SO nice at the point of sale, making out like they gave me a HUGE discount from $249 down to $170, this week the ring is parked down to $99 in their catalogue, disgusting!
