My husband received a call from a man calling himself David (with a very thick Indian accent) claiming that he was with the Department of Legal Affairs from the Treasury Department. He said that there was a legal matter pending against us and we should call back at 347-926-7026. Not only was he difficult to understand but it sounded as if were reading off of a piece of paper. My husband called this number back the next morning (THANKSGIVING DAY) and a woman answered. What government agency is open on a legal holiday? When asked why they were opened she told us for emergencies and got annoyed. She said we owed $15,000.00 for taxes from 6 years ago. A tax year we have already paid. She asked for our lawyer's name. Of course we didn't give her any information and at that point she said she would have an IRS
agent contact us. This has got to be a scam. We have spoken to IRS people before and this not how they operate. People should not become frightened and just send these scammers money!
