A clever scam artist called regarding the 'renewal' of my five magazine subscriptions totaling $69.99/mo for five years. He had my name, cell phone number, address, and credit card number. When I said that I had not ordered any magazines, he said he could not cancel the 'subscription' but could reduce the price to $39.99/mo for 30 months if he audio-recorded my answers to a series of questions. One question was, "Do you authorize me to charge your credit card $39.99/mo?" When I would say 'no', he would say that he could not lower the price without my permission which meant I had to answer 'yes' to give my permission to lower the price. When I would say, 'no' or 'under protest' or that I did not order any magazines, he would say his recorder had timed out and he had to start over again.
