Received phone call from a woman, who said she was our neice. It sounded like her voice. Our niece is from Mpls. Mn. area. A friend of her's was going to a wedding at Niagara Falls, NY. The Friend had an extra ticket. So she went. She said she was sitting next to a man who had a terrible cold. She asked to be move to another seat but was unable. So when she arrived at destination she purchased some "nyquil". She coughed during her call to us and said she was sorry. At the wedding they had a drink. She had rented a car at the air port. She said that in returning from the wedding a car broadsided her car. She was not injured but was sore as the air bag came out on her. she was given the liquor breath test. and came out .0l% over the limit so she was sent to a overnight jail. That was the reason she was calling. She said please do not tell anyone about this until she arrived back home. (Mpls. Mn.) She said an attorney would be calling us shortly to please take the call as he would explain it further. About 15 Min later we received a ph. call from a person who said he was Pat Boundry a court appointed attorney taking this case on free ( the state /country would be paying him). He wanted to help our Niece
in court to get released so she could make her flight thursday evening back to Mpls. He said the rental company had to file charges for the cost of fixing the car as in the small print of the agreemnt was, that if the rentor had been charged with any alcohol
that the insurance would not cover the loss which was $2985.00.
The attorney said he thought he could get the Court to release Amy if she would pay $985.00 as a deposit against the damage claim.
Asked me to go to a Western union office and wire him that fee within the hour so he could get it done in time to get Amy on her way. He asked what zip code i was from and he looked up the closest W U office which was about 10 miles from where i Live. So
My wife and I went and completed this. Attorney asked that I phone him when this was completed and to give him the transaction number so he could pick up the cash. so this was done.
My wife and I went home.. and about 15 minutes after being home he phoned again and said the judge decided he would not release Amy until all of the charges were paid for. The Attorney said that Amy's credit card could not be used as she had such a terrible credit rating - 550 he said. that seemed possible to me as Amy has had many expenses over the years with her health etc. So
the Attorney said he checked with his office and they had $1,000.00 in cash that he could apply to it as he just felt so badly for Amy, but that would leave it still short of about 985.00 and asked if i would go back to the w u office and wire that promptly so she could still make the flight in time. So yes being a good uncle i agreed. He said that once this was completed he would phone me with Amy and I could speak with Amy then. Well this long story, made now short, i never did hear from the attorney of Amy. Now I check Google and find out this fellow is a scam - so called attorney!!! I haven't been able to get ahold of my niece, Amy since this, but have left a message to have her phone me. It appears i've been
scammed out of $2142.00 that i will never recover !!
