I received a call this morning from an unknown caller. The man sounded of indian decent. He told me that I could qualify for grant money yay!!! I was told I as pre-approved for $5,000 -$10,000 in grant money. I let the man know I already receive grant money for college, he proceeded to let me know that the government was starting this program to assist with grant money to help with more than education but, to help with personal use as well. Then, I asked the man if there was a website I could read more information, he ignored me and kept talking about this new government grant. finally, he asked me to grab a pen and a paper gave me the website and told me "because the website is government operated you have a pre-set username, password, and confirmation number to retrieve it please let me know if the information is correct...." he started reading of my name fully, my e-mail, my address that I have lived in for about a week, and the city/state I reside. That is the part that scared me. Instead of asking me my information, he was telling me my information, what more does he know? my social, when I last colored my hair, or what i'm wearing right now. He then told me that for a fee of $3.95 I can retrieve my password and confirmation number. I told him I was broke hints the need for financial assistance. He asked me to use a gift card, family card, friends card, etc. I told him no thank you he gave me a call back number and he hung up on me. The number is (323)315-0033. I feel stripped of my personal information. I feel uncomfortable. Im barely 19 years old and stolen identity or fraud scares me to death. I know I didn't give him the money but, this man has my info already and how? I moved into my boyfriends place a week ago i'm not on the lease yet. What do I do?
