It might be a bit early to say for sure - but I'm pretty sure I got scammed today.

I received a phone call from Discount World Travel stating that I had been selected (along with 50 other people) to qualify for a discounted travel package, BUT that in order to register I had to give them my credit card number. I was reluctant, but they kept pushing it and eventually I agreed. After I gave them my credit card number, they put me through to "verification". This was a recorded call in which I was supposed to reiterate my credit card information and confirm the purchase - but as the woman was going through everything I realized that the package price didn't include airfare. Once I found this out, I told the woman that I had changed my mind and would like to reverse the transaction and decline the offer - if this was a recorded call, then I SHOULD be on tape telling her this.

She put me back through to the person I had been talking to before, and at this point in time he told me that it was too late to reverse the decision. Apparently, the transaction was final as soon as he typed in my credit card number - even though I hadn't made it through the verification process?

Because he was telling me that the transaction was final - and that there was nothing he could do - I agreed (reluctantly) to go back through to verification and complete the transaction. So I think I really got suckered, because I probably should have stuck to my guns and kept telling me that I wanted to reverse the transaction.

I subsequently went to their website and realized that the same "special promotion" I had "qualified for" is available to anyone who calls them. I tried emailing them - and the message was returned to sender. So I'm scared that I'll never be able to contact them and I'm thinking that I just threw away close to $500.
