I recieved a letter iin the mail stating that I had won the Canadian sweepstakes for520,000.00 . With this letter was a check for 3,475.50 to cover a supposed payment of 3,275.00 for stamp duty tax and Notorization Charges. On Oct. 17 I went to my band and spoke with the manager and she went on the web site for Cuivre River electric Company in Troy Mo, which is where the check was drawn on and on the website they had a scam alert "Canadian Sweepstakes"

I called the woman at the Electric Company at the 800 number listed on the website and she stated they have been getting calls from all over the US. When I called the number for the sweepstakes
they told me to go to the bank the day after I deposit the check and take out 3,400.00 cash and call them, they would then tell me the next step in the procedure in collecting my winnings.

This could have been an expensive lesson
