About July 15 of this year a Mr. Alan King, (1-334-301-3662), ([email protected]), representing the Appstar financial company at 4619 Viewridge Ave. Suite C San Diego, Ca. 92123-5611,(858 712-0150), Came to my place of business, the BKP Military Surplus Co. LLC, and asked me if I could use a credit card/debit card reader for very little money. I related to him that I had a few customers come in and said they could buy some merchandise if I could take a credit card, but that I was starting the company out on a shoe string and was using some of my social security check to pay some of the bills. Mr. King was a fast talker and assured me how that for only $31.00 a month I could use the credit card scanner. This sounded like a good deal to me if that was all it would cost. Mr. King said that I would have to pay $84.00 for initial set up fee then it would only be $31.00 each month. When I got my monthly bank statement I was shocked to see all the charges, what i was expecting was a charge of $31.00 not $413.47. I started trying to find out who was responsible for all these charges and finally found out it was the Mermac Capital company. I contacted them and was told that I had agreed to pay $31.00 per month to Appstar company and pay $84.00 up front to Appstar, $95.00 per year to Appstar and $71.94 each month to Mermac for the lease of the equipment. This was the first time I had heard anything about these charges. Mermac told me that I had signed a non-cancelling contract and that I should have read before I signed it. The contract was a five page contract and when I tried to read it it was so confusing with a lot of possible charges there was no way I could understand it, and I could not afford a lawyer to decipher it for me.
Also I recieved a bill of $229.00 per month from the U S Yellow pages that I had ordered, I asked to see the contract that I had supposedly signed, they sent me part of an order form with my signiture that appeared to have been copied off another contract. I recall that Mr. King had off handedly said something about recieving some sort of free advertising. The date of the order with U S Yellow pages is the same date as the contract I signed with Appstar.
Mermac is also telling me that I will have to pay $31.00 per month to Appstar,$95.00 per year to Appstar, $74.00 per month to Mermac or pay $4000.00 to mermac if I try to cancell the contract. I have never used the little scanner they sent me, I want to send it back to them but I am afraid if I do they will claim iy was damaged and want me to pay for it., How do I get this scanner back to them when I don't trust them to be honest
