I called a number from the local penny saver for a 3 bedroom 2 bath house in Rancho Cucamonga for $1300 a month. A man who identified himself as Brian told us that the home was no longer available but he had another home in Rancho Cucamonga that was for $1350 a month at 10198 Dorset St. We drove by the address, took a look from the outside and called the "agent" Brian back to set up a meeting with the understanding that he represented the owner of the house. Brian then told us that we needed to apply for the home and to take him our check stubs, i.d, and a $300 money order to hold the house and we had to do it that day in order to insure the home would be held. So we went to the address he gave us at 1428 north waterman avenue in San Bernardino to meet with Brian. When we arrived we were told that Brian had an emergency and had to leave but Roy would assist us. He took us into an office and pulled up the home on the computer and showed us pictures of the inside and then asked if we had ever had any evictions which we haven't and then asked for the $300 money order to hold the home while the home owner reviewed our application and before we handed over the money order I verified with him that it would be used to hold the home and once approved by the homeowner it would be used as a deposit toward the home and if we weren't approved it would be fully refunded. We were then told that we would receive a call within the next few days to schedule a walk through with the landlord. Later that week we received a call from the "customer service" person named Ruby who said the landlord agreed to a walk through that Saturday. On Friday I received a call from Ruby informing me that the landlord had a personal emergency and would be rescheduling the walk through at which point she would give us a call back to let us know the date and time. After waiting almost a week and not hearing anything I called Ruby and asked her what was going on at which point Ruby told me that she was having trouble scheduling with the landlord but assured me she would give me a call back with the date and time of the walk through. She called me the next day and told me that the landlord wanted to do the walk through that Saturday but was raising the cost of rent from $1350 to $1795 which made the home unaffordable to us. At this point I said I would not agree to that and I wanted our $300 back. Ruby then asked if she could send me some of their listings that would be comparable to what we went in for and I said I would take a look. The listings she sent me were no where comparable or even near the location we desired so I called and told her we just wanted our refund for $300. She emailed me a refund request which I submitted through the mail and didn't hear anything back for a month so I called her again and she said that the computer showed we would be getting it soon. Another month went by and I told her we hadn't received anything and she said she didn't know why and reverified our mailing address and said she would email the refund department to find out what was going on and give her a call back after a couple of hours. I did so and she stated we would be getting our refund in the the mail by the following Tuesday. We received a letter that Saturday stating we did not qualify for any refund because we did not go in twice a week for listings! I called and asked to set up a meeting with the person whose name we signed the money order over to and she said no and would not give us an email or number to reach him whose name is Adrian Torres. I then asked if she had a manager she said his name was Jimmy Lopez but was in and out of the office and would not take any calls or meetings with us. She then told me to take my case to small claims!
