Direct Flights International / Unauthorized use of MY bank card

I checked a mail sent from my bank in Taiwan informing me to contact them immediately to check my account for purchase entries. I called them not thinking there might be anything irregular. I thought it was just sort of a double checking of my recent purchases. However, I was shocked to be told there were many charges I did not make and that the largest of which was "DIRECT FLIGHTS INTER" for approximately 46,000NT or about 1500USD(post date on 08/30/2011). I thought it's probably "Direct Flights International" and checked their website and found they ostensibly have policies of needing front and back copies of credit cards to ensure orders weren't fraud. Yet, I still had my card and it's still charged. I e-mailed them and there was no reply. My bank in Taiwan said it would take 45 to 180 days to resolve my case as it was an international charge. They said that they were going through the international VISA organization for these cases. I am really frustrated by this because I do not know how or why my card information was compromised and that it was a debit card so the balance was simply "stolen" from my bank. I don't understand how "anyone" would be so cruel and without any moral or conscience to do these criminal acts to innocent people whose money is painstakingly saved little by little and who aren't rich. I just don't understand and I wish this does not happen to anybody else.
