I was approached via email to edit a document for him. He talked about mailing me a check for 50% of the total cost. I've done this before so I didn't think anything of it. When the check arrived, I was overpaid. He told me that he'd honor the check amount due to the error being on his part. Once the check cleared into my account, he asked me to reimburse him for the extra charges. After arguing on the phone with him for hours, I finally just agreed to wire him the money. I took the cash out of my bank and wired it. A few days later, my bank informed me that the check that had originally cleared, was in fact, a fake check.
