I am in the process of refurbishing a house and am on a tight budget so I scanned the internet for inexpensive kitchen suppliers. I completed a form and within a few days a customer service rep from Uber Kitchens called regarding my interest in their ex-display and special offers. I booked an appointment for the rep to see me on Thursday, 01 August 2013. He was a no show. When the called to apologise I should have told them to stuff it. However, I agreed to another appt as their prices were great and they guaranteed quality service and product. The kitchen rep named Fabian arrived and was polite if not fast talking. He quickly sized up my kitchen and spent about a minute drawing an outine where the cabinets would go etc. I instilled on him I wanted drawers, and more drawers. He priced the kitchen up and said if I wanted the discount price I would have to pay a cash deposit then and there. If not, the price would be more. I should have then told him to stuff it but the kitchen he offered was of good quality and it would cost us twice as much anywhere else. He also stated he would give me £250 if I found it cheaper and then he said he would give it to me for free 'because I would not find it cheaper anywhere else', etc. He gave me a receipt and said the local supplier would be in touch asap as I wanted the kitchen asap as fitters were scheduled. It was not until he left and I read the receipt that my £100 deposit was actually a non-refundable design deposit. This was never explained to me up front or I would never have given him the cash upfront.

The next day, I spoke to a tradesman who would be fitting the kitchen and he stated he looked up Uber Kitchens (also trading as Cheap Kitchens, Lancashire Interior Designs, Interior Home Designs of Lancashire) to find hundred of horrible reviews from these kitchen supplies. The kitchens are not ex-display, liquidated, or one offs as I was told by our kitchen rep. The kitchens are seconds and mainly unfit for purpose. The customer service staff is pleasant enough when trying to get your business but when you call to complain or cancel your order they are rude or non-existant.

When my fitter examined the basic drawing of my kitchen he noticed I didn't have any drawers and that I only had five units and the price was not that great considering what I was getting.

I am cancelling my order and want my £100 back as the money was obtained by deception and most definitely violates the Quality of Goods and Services act.

The principal of these companies is also known to Trading Standards and 'watch dog' authorities and has been subject of many scam type articles due to the number of people who have received poor quality items/service from his various kitchen companies.
