As early as April I was promised a feature in fashion magazine "TRUXURY" (if it even exists), but, as they are "newer" asked for $250 (plus taxes) to help cover the photoshoot/production of the magazine. I paid and was set to be shot for the summer issue. Well, the shoot kept getting postponed and when it was finally shot I was told my pieces would now be in the Fall issue. I paid for a 5-7 look editorial spread. Well, apparently the fall issue is out and NONE of my looks are in it (though I still haven't seen the magazine) -- according to the editor -- bc my looks didn't fit with the model. However, I was given model approval and they did not follow my guidelines or use the model promised.

I finally agreed to a partial refund of $150 with a press kit which would include the photographs. I was supposed to received that on 10/7 -- I still haven't received anything.

I honestly am beginning to wonder if this company even exists. The "editor" I worked with calls himself Jonathan Paul but the paypal went to a Jonathan Appata... and the head editor calls herself "Lauren Lavin" -- and they all use the same email -- [email protected] ...

Very shady company.

Update: 10/17/2011

ACTUALLY despite promises of paying up if I promised to ask that the post be removed, TRUXURY has still not given me the materials promised and/or my refund. Scumbags. This post can stay up. Thanks!

  • Sounds like a designer that didn't get featured.
This kind of thing happens quite often, But Truxury is an established magazine since 2007, they've aquired a strong fan base with over 7k FB fans, perhaps mismanagement may have led you here, But if they did shoot your designs, with an agency model then $275 sounds like a bargain. With or without being featured.

  • "Ana" -- do you work for "TRUXURY" ??? hahaha... They tried to do the same thing to me but I was smart enough not to pay for their "editorial" ... no one in the fashion industry who I know had ever heard of the publication or referenced it and told me it was probably a scam... as the above claim validates... thank GOD there is finally something on GOOGLE to let other designers BEWARE

  • Also any actually potentially cool designer has friends who are photographers and models who will shoot their looks for less than $275.... clearly "TRUXURY" has no fashion connections hahaha

  • omg it gets even WEIRDER! I just googled truxury and the man I met with who I was supposed to submit payment to (whose number I have) called himself Jonathan Paul... see link http://www.examiner.com/fashion-in-new-york/jonathan-paul ... but when I finally met him he was actually an African American male... NOT the man pictured.... i bet the actual guy is Jonathan Appata and uses this creepy fake French Alias... so embarrassing and insane.

  • You know whats interesting, above you said you chose not to work with them cause they don't exsist, then you just said you met their editor. Very interesting. (FALSE CLAIM?) If you had a relationship with their editor and can no longer deal with the fact that it's over, this is not the way to do it. You should look up defamation Christina, ohh I'm sry I mean Fashionexpert007.

  • I have only just joined this site today. And just read the above complaint from back in 2011 and I want to say, unfortunately it is true. They did have a website originally advertising top designers but they have deleted everything online. I'm not sure why. I was tempted to pay up; but I didn't trust them. It just seemed too unprofessional, from the moment they contacted me in Australia, they claim to have found my details on model mayhem. It was all very unusual, they certainly didn't work the way other magazines worked. They even deleted images of top brands that they "apparently" worked with on their facebook page. Their website has been shut down also. Perhaps it is just one person simply from the PR industry trying to establish a business for themselves and he/she may have just had bad communication with you. Trial & Error, I don't think they ripped you off intentionally, but they certainly aren't the HUGE company they claim to be. Just go with well established magazines, send samples in for free, send them to the fashion editor, if they like the design they'll do a feature on you. You may not get it back, but hey its a small price to pay to have your design in a mag right. Also send samples to television networks, the stylist & journalist on the day may choose your design for that day. Again, you might not get the sample back but it's a small price to pay to have a journalist/host wear your design on TV. Good luck with your fashion career :)

  • thx corinne! yes I was young and dumb and have made a lot of progress since! The reimbursement never came... though every year or so this Jonathan Appata (who claimed to be both Lauren Lavin -- a person who does not exist) and Jonathan Paul (handsome french man from examiner -- also fake) emails me offering to pay up if this article is removed. Payment has never been made and I don't understand why he too doesn't move on and let it go. It's really hilarious. Thanks for the support and I'm so happy you did not work with them!!!

  • Over 270, a bit cheap to go public over?.. The culprit(s) behind this false article- more focused on making personal comments - naming and calling obsessively- pretending to want to resolve a dispute- more focused on his looks- claiming they met and never met, at the same time- ignoring attempts to resolve the dispute (the supposed purpose)--- How does one take such an article seriously, on a site known for doing the same thing they claim to help prevent. They don't.
