My son responded to an online loan offer from GE Money Bank and was told that he qualified for a loan. however, he needed to pay $120.00 for a deposit and another $200.00 in taxes. He was instructed to purchase paypal prepaid cards, load the funds and provide them with the card number. Upon completion of this requirement, the loan amount was going to be deposited into his bank account.
Nothing happened. When my son tried to call them back, they hung up the phone. They called today, a person from the " fund Wiring service" wanted another 150.00 to facilitate the wire transfer. This is when I was asked by my son to intervene. I asked my son to just cancel the loan application and request for a refund. They refused and stated that they require another 50.00 to canceel the loan. This is when the conversation turned angry and outright hostile. They sated that they will not refund any paid funds until my son paid them another 50 dollars. this is an outright scam. The area code was from Ontario , Canada with a guys witha strong West Indies accent that sounded like it was run through an electronic device to mask his real voice. I asked my son to immediately file a Police report and put a hold on his bank account. It is a hard lesson for my son. scammers, lowlives that prey on people when they are already down are amongst the lowest lifeform on the planet.

We saw your post and would like to respond. The call you received was not from GE Money Bank. GE Capital (formally GE Money) provides private label and bankcard credit programs.
We do not provide personal loans via the purchase or use of prepaid money cards, nor do we call or email potential customers to request personal information to establish prepaid cards or personal loans, nor do we charge application fees.
What you detail in your complaint appears to be an attempt to fraudulently obtain money. More information is available at www.ftc.gov. We are glad you contacted the authorities so they can look into this.
