Directv notified me that they are changing the terms of the contract that I have with them. They supplied a link to the new terms and included that if I didn't agree with with the new terms that I must contact them to let them know. Well, I called and informed the customer service rep that I didn't agree with the new terms. The CSR asked me to hold, I was on hold for 10 minutes then the line was disconnected. I called back and was put on hold again, this time on and off for over 25 minutes; the CSR continued to ask the same question over and over but wouldn't give me any information.

I finally decided to email them, after about 3 emails they told me that if I didn't agree with the change I would have to cancel my account and pay over $380 in early termination fees. I explained to them that I wasn't making changes to our contract, it was them who want to make changes, I as the other party do not have to accept new terms.

In the contract I have with them it clearly states in Section 4 (Changes in Contract Terms) it states the following: “If you notify us that you do not accept such terms and conditions, then we may cancel your Service as provided in Section 5, as we cannot offer Service to different customers on different terms, among other reasons.”

If DirecTV determines to cancel my service based on the above statement, it is because DirecTV and its affiliates have deemed the contract void. It is important to note that this does not constitute a cancellation on my part; nor does it constitute a failure on my part to live up to the original agreement by any means and I am under no obligation to pay early penalties/termination fees, dues or services subsequent to such time of cancellation.

Yet, they refuse to do anything. They continue to state that if I won't agree to their changes then I have to cancel and incur the $380 penalty for doing so! How in the world can they get away with this?
