Upon arriving at ko ko kai we were appauled at the delapedated buildings , driving up to the property we had reserved and put a 100.oo deposit down on thru pay pal , we had reserved the front builing with ocean front view to spend 3 night , may 2, 3 and 4th to relax . the propert manager Mark saw us drive up and he smelled very strong of hard liquor , told me if i paid cash , that i wouldnt be charged taxes and wrote a reciept out for the balance of 320.oo . we brought our bags to the room and walked out on to the balcony to find an empty dried up hot tub , dirty table , large shells full of cigarette butts , pop sickle sticks and filth rugs . i had spoken to steve the owner several times to make sure the ko ko kai would be a fit for us , asking if it was a clean property and if it had a working hot tub and pool as showed in the photos on the web sight because it is important to me to be able to relax in a hot tub after the sun goes down , steve Chuckled about the hot tub working and said , well yes . he told me the tiki bar was open on the weekend and the rooms were not fancy but clean with a view like no other of the ocean . upon looking around , there was sand in the tub , floors were dirty , hot tub dried up, appliances dirty , Sand in the sheets , the pool and hot tub further back on the property were green with algea and shut down an a broken down outside bar that was not open, we trie to make the most of it , so we decided to take a walk on the beach , finding out when going to lock up , that the sliding back door didnt lock . i called the owner steve who said the pump just went out on the hot tub ,( i told him the hot tub an pool hadnt just closed , they had obviusly been out of service for awhile) seemed suprised that the door didnt lock and would have the maid clean the tub . the maid hande us sheets and left , they smelled musty and a sour odor . we locked our pursed in the trunk of our retal car , took a walk on the beach , went to dinner and came back to turn on the tv since the hot tub and pool werent working to find that the tvs didnt work either , picture rolling and breaking up on both tvs . i once again called steve and told him the tvs didnt work and i was sorry to bother him but since thr manager mark was apparently drinking at noon that i didnt bother to call him . steve said he didnt realize mark was drinking on the job and he would send over a a maint guy to look at the tv . the maint man who came right over was there appx one and a half hours pulling out and replacing cable while we were there unable to relax , upon leaving , told us he had to leave the sliding door cracked open for the cable to go uotside and till the next day . i aske him what was up with mark who appeared to be drinking on the job and he said he had told steve several time of mark drinking on the job and that he watched mark stumble over drunk from his mother in laws room on his way to fix our tv . the maint guy also told us the maid had been let go and the pool guy left and not his kids momma is the maid and the pool and jacuzzi had been down since the pool guy left and mgmt just kept pouring chemicals in it then closed them own. i put my feet under the sheets to go to be to put my feet in sand , mortified we walked down to the car to get blankets and travel pillows out of the car and upon walking back upstairs , there was a man in the room below us Sitting at a computer naked , so we ran up stairs ,layed our beach towels and pillows on top their covers to sleep until i could call steve in the morning !!! i called steve and told him of the issues and told him we couldnt stay in the filthy non working conditions and we were looking else where and aske him if he would refund our money upon us findind other accomodations , he said he would refund one day . we drove down manasota key that morning to find the island house and asked to look at a room finding it to be modest but clean on the beach (as we thought ko ko key would be ) , i called steve back to get his voice mail leaving him a message that a good buisness person would refund 2 or all three night but we couldnt stay in those conditions any longer so please refund our money to pay pal as he said he would . the main man returned to spend yet another hour rewiring so we told him we left a message for steve that we were ckecking out and he said to leave the key on the counter . the owner of the island house @ 2589 n beach road , ita desouza said he gets alot of buisness from people leaving ko ko kai because of the poor condions .i got back home an checked my pay pal account which had only been refunded my 100.00 deposit , not the 140.00 a night i paid . i calle him and he said he could only refund 100.00 on paypal . i told him he needs to send me a check for the remaining refund and he said he guesses he could , i said i sure would appreciate it as i ha to pay to go somewhere else , he said i didnt have to leave , i chose to , i said no we had to leave the dump you rented up and he hung up . anyone who would go check out this property would agree that the conditions are awful and that we should get our entire 420,00 for three nights i paid . a vacation should be relaxing with a clean enviroment and working features as promised . i am very disappointed and stress too much instea of enjoying my stay .
