Reporting a scam from Craigslist that I almost fell victim too... (15' MacBook Pro- 400.00). The seller posts from Canada where she claims she recently moved too. They use a company called ParcelsPlease for shipment, which is supposed to be a 3rd party vendor used to insure that your money is safe from fraudulent schemes through Internet transactions. It's all a HUGE SCAM!! All the emails are canned and the exact same messages are being used. See below: (start at the bottom)

Hey, ParcelsPlease just sent us the invoice.

One more thing, you'll see on the invoice that the price you must pay is $360
That's because the fee for the money transfer to ParcelsPlease is $40
I wasn't aware of this high fee and didn't like it but a deal is a deal.
So you're total will be as we've agreed - $400

Thanks!

Yes, I am in Toronto. I'll have to send it from here. I have found a company called Parcels Please that will deliver the Mac to you in the US and allow you to check the Mac before I receive the payment. You will be in control of your money and I will be in control of my Mac.
I will use 5 day delivery and I will take care of the shipping fee.
Please have a look at their procedure and we will go from there.

Hi, I am getting back to you regarding the 15" MacBook PRO from Craigslist

My name is Diane and I am now in Toronto.
Please take a look at the pictures attached to this email.
The Mac is in perfect shape.
Everything that came with the Mac is included (warranty as well).
I tried to be as thorough as I could with the presentation so you can have all the info if you decide to go ahead and buy it.
Let me know.

Thanks,
Diane

  • Hello, I work for ParcelsPlease.com, part of CCL (Consolidated Carriers Ltd) based in Scotland in the UK. We are a logistics company who operate globally however we have no affiliations with companies in the USA or Canada. These individuals have been using our company name and logo to commit fraud. Unfortunately many Craigslist users have been affected by this. We are trying our best to have all of these fraudulent sites closed down and have contacted the relevant authorities in Canada.

We do sympathise that you've been involved in this scam and thank you very much for reporting it so that others can avoid making the same mistake.

    Many thanks once again.
