1. Person made a Craigslist ad for a "Factory Unlocked "Samsung Galaxy NOTE-II" New in box ! - $210". In the picture provided it is the titanium grey version with T-Mobile on the screen and an American-style power adapter. An inconsistency is the model number listed (GT-N7100 is for the international version, not the T-mobile version). The contact information was [email protected]

http://spacecoast.craigslist.org/mob/3766085705.html

2. Received an email from Diane Harvey <[email protected]> with the following message:
Hi, I am getting back to you regarding the Samsung GALAXY Note II from Craigslist

My name is Diane and I am now in Toronto.
Please take a look at the pictures attached to this email.
The phone is brand new, it works with any GSM carrier and comes with warranty.
I tried to be as thorough as I could with the presentation so you can have all the info if you decide to go ahead and buy it.
Let me know.

Thanks,
Diane

In the email there were photos included of a WHITE galaxy note 2, with a different film on the screen, and a UK-style power adapter.

3. After sending an email explaining my skepticism, I received this reply:

The phone is white. I'm selling it because I've received it from work and I don't need it.
I have found a company called Parcels Please that will deliver the phone to you in the US and allow you to check the phone before I receive the payment. You will be in control of your money and I will be in control of my phone.
I will use 5 day delivery and I will take care of the shipping fee.
Please have a look at their procedure and we will go from there.

Thanks.

This appears to be a common reply, and used the Parcels Please company that has been reported for scams before. Additionally, the McAfee, Verisign and other affiliated links are not functional.

I was skeptical from the beginning and never gave this person any money.

  • I also received very similar e-mails from the same person. I almost fell for this myself. In my case for an iPad 4 64GB Wifi + cell for only $350.

Here is the emails from the same person:

    Thanks.

I have a family emergency and I have to go out of town. I will send it on Tuesday.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

I sent it today. ParcelsPlease will verify the package content and then send you the invoice.
Please keep me in touch and I will do the same.

Hey, ParcelsPlease just sent us the invoice.

One more thing, you'll see on the invoice that the price you must pay is $320
That's because the fee for the money transfer to ParcelsPlease is $30
I wasn't aware of this high fee and didn't like it but a deal is a deal.
So you're total will be as we've agreed - $350

    Thanks!

As you can see the correspondence was very very similar. You just saved me $350 Gordon, Thanks!

  • Hello everyone, I work for ParcelsPlease.com, part of CCL (Consolidated Carriers Ltd) based in Scotland in the UK. We are a logistics company who operate globally however we have no affiliations with companies in the USA or Canada. These individuals have been using our company name and logo to commit fraud. Unfortunately many Craigslist users have been affected by this. We are trying our best to have all of these fraudulent sites closed down and have contacted the relevant authorities in Canada.

We do sympathise that you've been involved in this scam and thank you very much for reporting it so that others can avoid making the same mistake.

    Many thanks once again.
