My bank sent me an alert by email saying that a suspicious transaction in the amount of $4.97 was made online by a company called Checkcard Brattcompany.com, supposedly based in Florida. Doing some research online I found out that other people have been scammed by the same 'company'. I also found out that the way these people operate is this: they first do a 'test' charge by charging a very small amount that hopefully won't seem suspicious to the cardholder. Once it goes through, they know that that card number they used is a valid one. At that point they will use the number again but this time charging a much larger amount,..$150.00...$250.00 or more. I was able to cancel my card right after the small charge of $4.97 and before any other charges were made. My bank is working into refunding me that amount. Luckily the damage was very small. Be ALERT of ANY amount that shows on your statement no matter how small!
