Dear Scambook;
I purchased a convertible top for my 1963 Corvette from Corvette Central on 2/15/2012. That top was professionally installed in April 2012 at a cost of $750.00. In July of 2012, less then three months after installation a section of the top started to peel and flake off and progressively got worst. We immediately notified Corvette Central, provided pictures as requested and they agreed that the top was indeed defective. We returned the top as instructed and were sent a replacement top under the 1 year warranty. I asked then who would be responsible for the cost of another installation as its been less then three months? The representative Connie told me she would speak with the Vice President of Corvette Central and that he would speak with the manufacturer of the top Al Knoch from Canutillo, Texas and find resolution in this matter. I personally keep notes, dates and records of all transactions and phone calls...After several phone calls made by myself, the lack of not returning my phone calls and messages, being given excuses like 'quote',I did not hear from the VP yet!, the top has not been sent to the vendor yet!, every time I go by his office I mention the soft top issue, nothing for me today yet!, The VP is going to meet with Al Knoch personally at a car show in Chicago!, he still has'nt returned my calls!...etc.etc.etc. excuse after excuse I finally put my patience aside and informed Connie that it has been long enough and that the VP needs to "get off his seat" and pick up the phone and put and end to this matter. That five months have gone by and over thirty phone calls is ridiculous and unwarranted, definitely not good business practice. I very soon thereafter heard from Connie, her words were 'quote, I finally heard from the VP and that his findings would not make you happy. That he (VP) had spoken with Al Knoch, that Al Knoch had looked at the top and did;nt know where to point the finger and who to blame, that they would not refund the lower of two installation charges of $455.00.
All along I had a gut feeling that I was being swept under the rug, not given the due respect deserved of a consumer, using delay tatics in hopes that I go away, feeling betrayed by an American company who represents the number one American car the Corvette... Very upset I pursued this matter with different agencies,(BBB of Texas & Michigan, Attorney General offices of Texas & Michigan, the Federal Trades Commission, IC3 Internet Crime Division, Stop Fraud.Gov and one being "Scambook LLC"). The Texas BBB has yet to reply to two letters sent to them, The Texas Att Generals office informs me that they don'nt get involved in civil disputes,the BBB of Michigan did assign me a case number and fowarded my letter to Corvette Central, did receive a statement from them which had nothing to do with my original complaint and filed it. The Att Generals office of Michigan Bill Schuette did contact Corvette Central and given the same vague response as the Michigan BBB and closed my file!!! It was Scambook, a "non government" agency who contacted both companies on my behalf, upon speaking with a representative at Al Knoch they were informed that they had no knowledge of this matter, were not approached by Corvette Central and stated to Scambook that they indeed have in the past paid claims on any and all defective products produced by them. All along I felt uneasy about the treatment at Corvette Central and the lack of care by the so-called Vice President, to a point where I feel he should be pushing french fries at a fast food restaurant, so we the consumers not have to deal with this mishandling of warranted claims.
Belonging to the Corvette 63-67 Registry which is thousands strong, attending and participating in the past and any future events at "Corvettes at Carlilse" in Pa. where our 63' won the "Corvettes 50th Anniverssary Celebrity Pick" in 2002 where again is attended by thousands, members of several car clubs and holder of many trophies from many cars shows & cruise nights, one has to wonder how our discontent and mishandling of a founded claim by Corvette Central is going to resound with our friends in the Corvette world!!!
