Met this man on Match.com. He was very smooth and said all the right things. He was a contractor finishing work on an orphanage in Johannesburg. He said he lived in Chicago having moved there from Santa Rosa, CA after his divorce 7 years ago. We met on March 8th via email and continue emails, text and calling until March 27th. He send me a photocopy of a Regions Bank cashiers check in the amount of $2.5 million which is what he was paid for the job he did. He said his funds were depleted and could I loan him $5000 until he flew to Dallas to see me. Reluctantly I did using Money Gram. At this point I should have known better but emotionally I was tied into this fake. That happened on March 20th. 4 days later he said he had to pay some taxes he was not aware of and would I loan him $20K. Everything started to unravel and when I asked for proof of who he was he photo shopped pictures at the orphanage. My cousin tracked down the original photo and the person in the picture was not my guy. I have emails, IP address, photos, copy of counterfeit check made out to him and also found that he used another alias last year - [email protected] to scam another women. The phone numbers he gave me are:
707-304-7805 and 707-560-4224. I have reported this to Match and eHarmony in case he is on various dating sites. I am embarrassed and feel violated and emotionally raped. I want to prevent this man, whoever he is, from doing this to someone else. Obviously he has a connection in South Africa who gets the money.
