On 3/7/13, I made an on-line purchase with the James McCanney Science website for two ceramic water filters. I received the order confirmation via email, noted that the cost was charged to my credit card, and expected delivery of the water filters within two days. The order receipt should have denoted a UPS tracking number, but it didn't. I called Jim McCanney on 3/15/13 at the phone number on the email receipt: 612-232-6651, and spoke with Jim McCanney. He assured me he would investigate and reply with his findings, via email. To date, he has not responded to my request, and no one answers the phone with my repeated attempts.

Sincerely,

Gary E. (Personal Information Removed)

  • I have made purchases with James McCanney Science website over the last 2-years, without incident. Generally, an on-line purchase should not be charged to a credit card until after the item purchased has been transacted/shipped. I would understand an explanation of back-orders for a pending re-stock, but no charges should be made until it has been processed and shipped.

I had also intended to purchase his e-books; however, considering his current sales tactics and that James McCanney has seemingly dropping off the edge of the Earth, I suspect fraud.

I would be intersted to hear if anyone else has been stung by this guy.

  • we have contacted this customer by leaving a voice message and the products are being shipped ... the products this customer ordered are getting harder to stock due to demand and difficulty in getting stock ... some customers wish to be charged when items are packaged and shipped which we have tried but then only to discover the cards fail or are expired or have insufficient funds then we have wasted time and effort so unfortunately this method does not work for products that are difficult to find with high demand ... the people who order these difficult to get products understand this and are ok with the wait when it occurs ... if customers complain we gladly refund their money instantly but most customers want their products since we are one of the only places to get these important water filter items (if we are slow to get products so are the few other places in the USA who sell these) ... we have recently pulled some items from the sales page as we cannot keep them stocked ... most of the more recent products on the web page are eBooks which the customer downloads instantly so there is no delay in packaging or shipping the products ... go to www.jmccsci.com for more information ... the staff at jmccanneyscience.com

  • Since Mr. McCanney will no longer respond to my emails or phone calls and, finds it easier to make contact through my posted complaint, then I will address his response comments here.

    1. Mr. McCanney did contact me by phone on 3/22/13 to apologize for his delay on sending my order, and also said he had computer problems. He stated that 'he has processed my order'... but to date I have not received any notice of shipment, nor to date, delivery of items purchased/paid for on 3/7/13.

    2) Mr. McCanney stated above that: '...we have recently pulled some items from the sales page as we cannot keep them stocked...’. However, the water filters I ordered one month ago, on 3/7/13, are still listed on his website (http://www.jmccanneyscience.com/SecWebOrderPg.htm), and they were also listed there before and after 3/7/13.

    3) Mr. McCanney states above: ‘...if customers complain we gladly refund their money instantly...'. Well then, Mr. McCanney, consider this posting (which will also be emailed to you) as my FORMAL CUSTOMER COMPLAINT. PLEASE GLADLY REFUND MY MONEY TO MY CREDIT CARD, IMMEDIATELY!

I find Mr. McCanney's sales posturing above to be a typical example of his character. Only he would be bold enough to plug his book sales on a complaint forum. Almost everything sold on his website (except his books) is cheaper at Amazon anyway.

  • This morning I was happy to see that James McCanney's staff(?) refunded the $69.00 to my credit card account.

I don't know how James McCanney could define this horribly failed transaction as an error. My purchase was made on 3/7/13, and was not corrected until now (32 days later). Even McCanney’s responses to my complaint were shown to be disingenuous excuses.

I'm also happy to state that Amazon not only provided the same water filters for $19 less than McCanney, but Amazon also delivered the product to my house in 3-days (with free shipping)--shame on me for not shopping around for a reliable distributor.

I also wish to thank scambook.com for their superb handling of my complaint. At least I know where to go if I get burned by another on-line merchant.

  • THIS CUSTOMER HAS MADE THE CLASSIC MISTAKE OF ORDERING CHEAP IMITATION PRODUCTS FROM SOMEONE THAT DOES NOT SPECIALIZED IN WATER FILTER PRODUCTS AND THINKS HE GOT A GOOD DEAL ... AMAZON DOES NOT SELL THE HIGH QUALITY PRODUCTS THAT WE SELL WHICH ARE IN SHORT SUPPLY AND HIGH DEMAND ...

  • Sorry James, but you are wrong. They are the same ceramic filters packaged in Doulton Water Filter boxes. Link:

    http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=doulton+filter&tag=googhydr-20&index=aps&hvadid=4030970801&hvpos=1t1&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=1908571192589147866&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=b&ref=pd_sl_7uspvl6sve_b

I was wrong about one of my claims above: I received the Doulton water filters, with free shipping from Amazon, in 2-days, not 3-days (and I didn't have to wait through 32 days of baseless, false excuses like I did with you).

Furthermore, if you re-read the entire string of comments in this complaint, it becomes apparent that trusting you was the only mistake I made.

I thought this complaint was closed, James, but your vain attempt to defend your indefensible acts has reactivated it.
I wonder how Amazon will react to your allegations of them selling "cheap imitation" products. Are you also claiming that Amazon packages these filters in imitation (counterfeit?) Doulton Water Filter boxes?

  • Correction to my last comment/question to James:

Are you claiming that the Amazon packages these filters came in, are imitation (counterfeit) Doulton Water Filter boxes?
