Over six months ago, I ordered a book from a TV ad: How to Pay Zero Taxes. I did not link the two until I called the 800# today. He said that my book came with a "free" subscription to a NewsMax newsletter (something I receive via email, though I never tied the two together).

The representative said that once the "free" subscription expired, I was "automatically renewed" to the newsletter--at the sweet charge of $109.00!!!! He said "reminders are sent." I said that unless I physically subscribe to something, the use of my card to "subscribe me" is fraud, plain and simple. I ordered a book; never was I told that I was "automatically subscribed" to anything.

The company News Max is linked to Money News, and Money News runs an article on their website that tries to assuage this activity, saying that any customer who calls and complains will receive a full refund (of course, after they've had free use of the money for several days). "The refund will take 3-5 business days," to process and be reflected in my account, according to the representative.

I'm an educated woman, and I know how to read "small print." I ordered a book; there was no small print. This is fraud--plain and simple.
