After filling out an application online, I was contacted by a CRST recruiter (John Hairston) and after looking over an information packet that was emailed I accepted his offer of employment and was given a bus ticket to their school in Waterloo, IA. Upon arriving at the school I was suprised to learn that there were about 40-50 people in our class (classes start weekly so about 100 people) and we only had 2 trucks to practice on at the training area and only 3 instructors. They try to rush us through the school at an accelerated rate because CRST wants their money so much. I passed the CDL test and was taken to their facility in Cedar Rapids for orientation. Their dorms are horrible, 3 people to a room, 1 small bathroom on each floor for students, and the only tv was in the lounge. The atmosphere was like a prison, with having to sign in and out, having a curfew, and only being able to go limited places. They made us sign the 8 month contract the morning of the first day before any background checks could be conducted, more than half the class was sent home for frivilous reasons and they still have to pay the $4500 for training and they cant work anywhere else because CRST has them under contract for 8 months, and put that on their DAC reports so its impossible to get another job so they can support their family and do what they went to the school for, so their CDL is basically useless just because CRST is so money greedy. John basically lied to get people like myself in the door, only to get his commission for the people that his company enslaves. The company doesnt care about you or your family, you're just a peice of meat to them. I've had problems with my trainer from the first day, and of course management doesnt care. Bottom line: Dont't go here, its not worth it. These bottomfeeders will destroy your life, your family, and your hope for a better future. Run away, run far far away, get out while you still can.
